FrontRangeLiving.com -> Outdoors -> Hot Air Ballooning
Up,
Up and Away
By Beth Krodel
As
temperatures begin to drop, balloonists gather along the Front Range for
airborne festivals. Traveling by balloon gives a bird's-eye view of spectacular
scenery.
It's 5 a.m. on a Sunday, and the alarm clock is
blaring its annoying beep.
Bryan and I feel around the tent for clothes and
socks, climb out of our sleeping bags, get dressed and, still half asleep, head
for the car.
It's a 30-minute drive from our campsite south of Minturn to the launch area
in Edwards, just west of Vail, and we're supposed to be there at 5:45 a.m. The
woman on the phone said we had to take off early in the morning while the wind
is still calm.
