A
DELICATE SPORT: Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park
The warnings were clear: lackluster snowfall, high winds and icy conditions
in Rocky Mountain National Park. But the lure was enticing—a snowshoe hike
with a ranger for two hours of trails. For someone who has never donned a pair
of snowshoes before, the offer looked appealing. During the past four years,
park rangers have collected would-be snowshoe enthusiasts for hikes during the
winter months. "As boomers have aged," says ranger Susan Langdon,
"they’re looking for a less stressful way to get out in the wilderness.
Less stress on their joints." Snowshoeing is as easy as walking, she says,
as we will discover.
