BRUSH UP--BETWEEN ANTIQUE AND NEW
By Lindsey LaFon
Down in the basement, tucked between the table saw and terra cotta planters,
sits Uncle Bob’s chair. It was added to my earthly possessions about a decade
ago.
Sporting evidence of several colorful paint jobs, nicked and dinged, it has
been a trustworthy, impromptu sawhorse, a stepstool and more. It’s sturdy,
with its joinery intact, a humble and useful bit of my shop life.
Uncle Bob’s chair is about to get a new look.
With a weekend’s effort and a few dollars of materials, you can transform
the forlorn to the reborn, worthy of star status placement in your favorite
room. It’s the perfect project for an artsy weekend, a four-legged canvas for
your creativity.
And in the hands of an artist, a mundane piece of furniture can be
transformed into a signature, room-defining objet.
