Xeriscape: Providing a Colorado "Sense of Place"
If
xeriscape sounds like a nonsense word, well, you’re right. In 1981 the Denver
Water Department struggled to coin a term for drought-tolerant plantings.
Overnight, Xeriscape came into our vocabulary.
Xeric means dry in Greek, but landscape architects tell us that it's simply
the wise use of water. The concept has caught on with environmentalists, water
conservators, low-maintenance gardeners and landscape architects.
