Hardy Roses have a place in the Colorado landscape
If you’ve
tried and failed to grow roses on the Front Range, don’t
despair. You may have to think differently, but vigorous roses will change your
luck.
Roses unfairly carry a reputation as fussy and finicky—especially in
Colorado.
Consider that over 2,000 cultivars of roses grow in the world today. Many
have yet to be attempted in a Colorado climate. That’s unfortunate because
roses have been cultivated historically in climates much like our own. For
example, in dry, chilly northern Iran, the image of the rose adorns painted tea
houses and plays a prominent role in walled gardens.
