Bearded iris are among the hardiest perennials to grow along the Front Range in Colorado, but at Long’s Iris Garden in Boulder, crows have ripped the young shoots from their neat rows.

“My husband and I have taken to having our dinner out here and waiting for nightfall,” says owner Catherine Long Gates, where she stands watch until the vandalizing crows retire to their nests.
