An interview with rose expert Joan Franson

Joan Franson teaches classes in rose culture at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Past president of the Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs and a judge for the American Rose Society, she grows a variety of  roses in her Arvada garden.

FRL: What are your favorite roses for your own garden in Arvada?

FRANSON: I like everything, probably because I’m a rose judge and instructor. My favorite is not the hybrid tea, although they’re lovely. But I grow 200 bushes that include old garden roses, also shrub and floribunda roses.
